Ronald van der Kemp wins 2017 Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipend

The designer wins a cash prize to continue developing his label

Ronald van der Kemp was this evening announced as the winner of the 2017 Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipend. The prize is intended for talented Dutch fashion designers of excellent artistic quality. The cash prize gives winner of the Cultuurfonds Fashion Stipend the opportunity to further develop themselves, artistically and commercially.

Van der Kemp has garnered attention over the last few years for his striking pieces made exclusively from recycled materials. His creations are characterised by interesting choice of materials (such as Levis 501 jeans and the American flag) and distinctive volumes. Just a few months ago, Justin Beiber was spotted in an Amsterdam Albert Heijn supermarket wearing the designer's trousers, and Van der Kemp soon went viral. During the July 2016 edition of Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam, Lieke van Lexmond wore one of the designer's looks and American stars like Mary J. Blige, Miley Cyrus and Jada Pinkett Smith have been seen sporting his styles.
