MAISON the FAUX surprises with a hilarious show

The closing show of the 27th MBFWA was a resounding success

Design duo MAISON the FAUX put on an unusual spectacle for the last night of the 27th edition of Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam. The fictional fashion house set up six sunbeds on the catwalk for their eccentric models to parade around. The looks featured soft pastels, but the atmosphere of the show itself was something closer to fierce.

That feeling was thanks in part to the models' confident strides, which seems crazy given  their insane footwear. Long patent leather boots in black and silver looked just as tempting as the fluffy mules. The looks themselves were all in pastels, but the fine lines, sometimes incorporated into the material itself, sometimes created by combining multiple fabrics, helped give the designs more body. The hair and make-up featured plenty of mother-of-pearl sheen on the faces and dashes of colour through the hair.

Futuristic

The futuristic sunbeds with their dynamic light made the setting complete. The final number, an instrumental version of Britney Spears' Toxic, got its own message across to the audience this Sunday evening.

"For every collection and every project, they work together with creative individuals who are looking for ways to turn the fashion world upside down"

About the designers

MAISON the FAUX is a creative studio that profiles itself as a major fashion house. The fashion house is a loving response to the modern fashion system that presents its work with a cheeky wink to an audience that dares to move freely in an often narrow-minded world. 'The Fictional House' – a rough translation of MAISON the FAUX – is grounded in their tremendous sense of humour and self-mockery, combined with a deep love of fashion. The fashion label represents a new, fresh outlook on masculinity and femininity. They don't differentiate between the two, instead preferring to make 'human wear'.

Joris Suk en Tessa de Boer

The Arnhem-based fashion house is under the commercial and artistic direction of Joris Suk and Tessa de Boer. For every collection and every project, they work together with creative individuals who are looking for ways to turn the fashion world upside down, thus creating space for young designers and working towards innovations in design and production. The conceptual, theatrical character of MAISON the FAUX's fashion shows garners them large-scale attention. MAISON the FAUX creates true all-encompassing experiences with their collections, products, shows, and performances. They create an entire world around each project, expressed in conceptual and theatrical productions and presentations. The label's unique character is defined by humorous, clever, expressive elements. In addition to their unique fashion shows, MAISON the FAUX now spends an increasing amount of their time on work for clients in the cultural sector and the art and design worlds. One such recent project was a collaboration with the Centraal Museum for their exhibition, 'Uit de Mode' (Out of Fashion), which can be seen starting this month.
