Rushemy Botter is audience favourite at MBFWA

Botter is the next cool kid on the block who hopefully expands his label with a women’s collection very soon

Rushemy Botter is a name to remember. The talented designer just recently graduated, but has already made quite a name for himself. He showed his graduate collection last year at the New York Fashion Week and won five Belgian prices for the presentation he also showed in Amsterdam tonight.

Last June Botter graduated from the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp. His collection immediately got awarded five (!) awards: the Ann Demeulemeester Award, the Flanders DC Award, the Knack Weekend Award, the Dries van Noten Award and the Belmodo Award. After that he moved to Paris to spread the success even further. Botter was welcomed in Amsterdam by his –growing – group of fans. The Transformatorhuis was completely packed; it was a long time ago that a men’s collection was so well received. The tropical environment, the playful setting and the edited notes of Stings Fragile made for a very interesting combination.

Statements and flowers

The designers’ items are often in battle with recurring themes like racism, corruption and terrorism. Literally in battle: his pieces carry a military touch and are covered in patches that make statements – which are far from subtle. The Shell logo, the inflatable fishes, the strips of plastic and the fishing nets that were used as accessories, cannot be ignored. Oversized jackets, some folded from the shoulders in a meticulous way, give new life to the standard suit. The white suit containing bright coloured flower prints still remains the most desired piece. The print is also exciting because of the range of colours, which is a pleasure to look at throughout the presentation. Botter is the next cool kid on the block who hopefully expands his label with a women’s collection very soon.
